Introduction

Broken down into its most basic elements, teaching nordic skiing at some point comes down to detecting something that a student is not doing well and trying to correct it. The detection phase can often be the easiest part once you have a good picture in your head of what the proper technique is supposed to look like. To address the issues of how to go about correcting the fault that was identified I’ve attempted to compile a list of various drills (exercises, games, etc.) which can be used to reinforce specific skills. This is by no means meant to be a comprehensive list. I am not only open to, but eager to hear about other drills. The reason for writing them down in one place is to help me remember them all while at the same time hopefully creating a resource that will be of use to others.

I’ve broken the drills down by technique (Classic, Skating, Hills) plus an additional section on Games which may not be technique specific but which are useful as an indirect means of general skill development. Plus they’re meant to be fun! For each drill I’ve tried to identify what theT primary skill or technique component it addresses. I’ve also listed what I would consider the secondary skills each addresses. his is not to suggest a particular drill should only be used to correct what is listed as the primary skill; but rather just as my categorization of where these drills fit into the entire bag of tricks any good instructor will have.
